The sign manufacturing industry creates signage for visual graphics created to display information to a particular audience. This is typically manifested in the form of way finding information in places such as streets or inside/outside of buildings. Applications include mechanical applications, such as conveyor belt rollers or bushings, graphical applications such as promotional signage, and see-through applications such as displays.
Advantages of plastics
The advantages of plastics in Sign Manufacturing are numerous. Plastics are much lighter than metal, which equate into better fuel economy and cheaper to manufacture parts. Additionally, the lighter weight aids in safer material handling. Plastics can be designed to be impact and dent resistant, and modified for improved strength. Corrosion resistance, color and texture flexibility, the economical components and aesthetics are other advantages of plastics.
Materials Utilized Within Industry
The sign and graphics industry commonly uses roll stock and oversized sheets, including Acrylic, Polycarbonate, PVC foam, Engraving Stock, Dibond, Sign Vinyl -OVERSIZE SHEET and ROLL STOCK.
Dibond® Deflection Data
Deflections of Dibond® material under load are demonstrated by the amount of spacing between supports across the short dimension of the panel in comparison to the panel deflection.
Dibond® for Workzone Safety Signage
New criteria went into effect in October 2000 and requires work zone safety signage to be tested in a full scale vehicle crash.
Screen-Print Ink Compatibility of Dibond®
Screen-print Dibond® signage and displays with recommended inks. Consult with the ink manufacturer if there are any questions regarding the use of a particular ink.
Cutting Dibond® Material
Dibond® can be cut using methods common to both the metal and woodworking industries. No cutting lubricants, oils or coolants are required.
ALUCOBOND© Color Guide
Alucobond Material is known for its color consistency. Coatings include the full range of finishes from 70% PVDF in both metallic and non-metallic to polyester.
Screen-Print Ink Compatibility with Fome-Cor®, JetMount® and Foam-X® Recovery
Foam Boards with white clay coated liners, manufactured by 3A Composites, are often screen printed when used in the signage and display industry.
Painting Fome-Cor®, Jet-Mount®, and Foam-X® Recovery
Fome-Cor® products may be painted utilizing many commercially available coatings. It is advisable to pretest before committing to a production run.
Mounting on Heat Activated Fome-Cor®
Heat Activated Fome-Cor® provides an easy to use and time saving mounting package.
Mounting on Self-Adhesive Fome-Cor® HT
Self-Adhesive Fome-Cor® HT (high tack) is designed for mechanical mounting of all sizes of photos and artwork or hand mounting smaller works of art.
ALUCOBOND© Cleaning Information
Alucobond is a light-weight composite material consisting of two pre-finished 0.02" thick aluminum cover sheets heat-bonded to a core made of polyethelene plastic.
